Gyeonggi-do Delusion
The trio took a trip out on one of the Saturdays to visit Le Petite France and Nami Island. I had seen on Running Man that Le Petite France was a quaint little european village so I wanted to experience some "Europe" for myself. Boo my non-existent Europe and American experiences.
We took the Line 2 train to Dong Seoul station and walked to the bus terminal opposite the station. Once you're there, head to the counters that sell tickets for CheongPyeong Bus Terminal and get yourself a ticket for KRW5,000. Don't be late for your bus! Check the timing on your ticket.
Safe to say we were happy-scared about our trip |
CheongPyeong Bus Terminal |
If not, take a taxi straight to your destination. The ride is about KRW16,000.
There is an entrance fee of KRW8,000 for Le Petite France.
The inspiration for such a village |

Honestly, the village was a big disappointment. For KRW8,000, there was nothing much to do. Food wasn't fantastic and we finished the tour in 30 minutes. I wouldn't recommend it to my friends.
Because we were done so quickly, we rushed to catch the next Route A bus to Nami Island. Nami Island is famous for being the filming site for Winter Sonata. The island was named after General Nami, but the island was also called Rainbow Island because of the many colours on the island. It felt like autumn in summer for me.
Go down to the ferry and get yourself tickets for KRW8,000. Don't be fooled by their immigrations centre. You won't need a visa for "Nami Country". You might need the passport for a foreigner discount, though. (Not so sure if there IS a discount)
Stupid gate scared us |
Sadly, the tourism in the island destroyed the aesthetics of the natural environment. There were buildings oddly placed everywhere. Tourists were all over so you couldn't take a good shot of the natural beauty.
You killed the place, Yon-sama. |
Winter Sonata again |
I don't know the drama significance for this tree, but I just saw beauty in it. |
Merlion. Just coz the guy spits water. |
Unicef Hall |
Let's just say that this trip wasn't very fulfilling. The beauty was destroyed by the throngs of people. Gyeonggi-do is beautiful, but not with the crowd around. But a camping trip up to the pensions would be good for you to see the lake and enjoy a time in the wilderness. If you feel frustrated by the "industrialisation" of the place, I will suggest the water sports and extreme sports available everywhere.
Bungee jumping near Nami Island Ferry Terminal |
You might recognise this from Running Man, BtoB, We Got Married, etc.
DON'T FORGET! Last Route A bus is around 6pm so don't be late. Alternatively, grab a cab and head to the train station or the bus terminal.
